The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia began in 1969. The original founders saw a need to help the hungry and the homeless in our community. The vision was to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless.
In 1970, the Neighborhood Center Board bought an old house at 434 S. Woodland, our present location, and our mission evolved. We gradually expanded: establishing a thrift shop to provide clothing, furniture, helping with rent and utilities, temporary housing for working adults, and transitional housing for families.
The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia has for the past 40 years, aimed to be an organization that is flexible and responsive to the needs of West Volusia Citizens. Our mission remains the same: to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and prevent homelessness through rent and utility assistance.
